The SECO 02959965 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMU-M3 series, designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — for extended tool life in steel and stainless steel applications. The 35-degree diamond insert shape (V code) provides a sharp, narrow geometry suited to profiling, facing, back turning, and longitudinal turning. With 4 cutting edges per insert and a neutral hand orientation, it delivers consistent performance across a range of depth-of-cut conditions up to 0.4961 inches.
This insert is intended for use in lathe and turning center toolholders that accept the VNMU clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding method. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P), with secondary suitability for stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 cover a wide range of steel types from finishing to rough semi-finishing. The M3 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium cutting conditions. This insert is appropriate for production machining environments and is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working to ANSI and ISO tooling standards.

Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque procedure for the specified holding method — clamp, pin, or lever lock — as improper seating can cause insert fracture or dimensional error.
