Product Description

The SECO 02959960 is a VNMG331-M3 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Designated grade TP1501, it carries a 35-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code V), a negative rake geometry, and an M3 chip breaker designed for controlled chip formation in medium turning applications. The insert features 4 cutting edges with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, a 0.0157 inch corner radius, and an inscribed circle diameter of 0.375 inches. It is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators on lathes and turning centers using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods.

This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations on steel as its primary workpiece material (ISO Code P), with secondary applications in cast iron (K) and hard materials (H). Typical operations include back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning. The M3 chip breaker geometry supports medium-depth roughing through semi-finishing passes. The insert meets ANSI and ISO standards and carries ISO code VNMG160404-M3. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.

Key Features

  • CVD Duratomic multilayer coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life in steel cutting
  • 4 cutting edges per insert for maximum index efficiency
  • M3 chip breaker optimized for back turning, facing, profiling, and turning operations
  • Negative rake, neutral hand geometry fits standard VNMG toolholders
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style for edge toughness and surface finish
  • Compatible holding methods: clamp, pin, and lever lock

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert fitting standard VNMG-style toolholders that accept the VNMG331 insert size. Conforms to ANSI and ISO geometry standards under ISO code VNMG160404-M3 and industry standard number VNMG331-M3.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC technicians. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and toolholder pocket for chips or damage before seating a new insert.
