The SECO 02959918 is a CNMG542-M3 indexable turning insert designed for steel, cast iron, and hard material machining in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a multilayer Duratomic system — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — the insert delivers thermal stability and wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. The TP1501 grade targets P10 and P20 steel classifications with secondary capability in cast iron (K) and hard materials (H). With four usable cutting edges and an M3 chip breaker geometry, it is suited for boring, facing, and general turning operations at moderate to aggressive material removal rates.
This insert is intended for use in production turning on CNC lathes and machining centers in both job shop and production environments. The 80-degree diamond (C) shape provides good nose strength for interrupted cuts and profiling. The M3 chip breaker geometry handles medium-depth roughing and semi-finishing passes on steel components. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style improves edge stability and reduces built-up edge when cutting ferrous workpieces. It is compatible with CNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods.

Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and de-energize the machine tool, and ensure the spindle is fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder type — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and cutting-edge positioning.
