The SECO 02959916 is a CNMG433-M3 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Carrying grade designation TP1501, it is engineered for productive metal removal on steel and cast iron in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The insert features a negative rake geometry, an 80-degree diamond shape, a 3/64-inch (0.0472-inch) corner radius, and an M3 chipbreaker with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. Four usable cutting edges are available per insert, lowering per-edge tooling cost in high-volume turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers and users of this tooling.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. Its primary workpiece material designation is P (steel), with secondary ratings for K (cast iron) and H (hard material), covering a material grade range of P10 to P20. The CNMG form factor fits standard CNMG-style toolholders that accept 1/2-inch inscribed-circle inserts with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. The ISO equivalent designation is CNMG120412-M3, and the industry standard number is CNMG433-M3.
Fits standard CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed-circle, 3/16-inch thick insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards; ISO equivalent designation CNMG120412-M3, industry standard number CNMG433-M3.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and engage the appropriate clamping mechanism — clamp, pin, or lever lock — according to the toolholder manufacturer's torque and seating procedure. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge to avoid seating errors that can cause premature edge failure.
