The SECO 02959858 is a CNMG543-M6 indexable turning insert in grade TP0501, designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life in steel and cast iron applications. The insert has a 5/8 inch inscribed circle, a 3/64 inch (0.0472 inch) corner radius, and an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake geometry. Four cutting edges are available per insert. Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians as part of routine insert indexing on production turning equipment.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. It is classified under ISO material grades P01 and P10, making it appropriate for finishing to light roughing passes on carbon and alloy steels as well as gray and ductile cast irons. The M6 chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style support stable chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut up to 0.5866 inch. The insert meets both ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation CNMG160612-M6.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 5/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.2500 inch hole diameter, using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Compatible with toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO CNMG160612 standards.
Indexing and insert replacement should be performed with the machine powered off and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten clamping screws. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. This insert is a multi-use, multi-tipped tool; index to a fresh cutting edge before replacing the insert entirely.
