The SECO 02959845 is a VNMG333-MF2 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Carrying grade designation TP2501, this insert is designed for medium-duty turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The diamond 35-degree insert shape provides a sharp, geometry-efficient cutting profile. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, and an MF2 chipbreaker geometry, it delivers controlled chip formation across a range of feed rates and depths. The negative rake angle and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style provide edge strength and stability. Four usable cutting edges per insert maximize tool life and reduce per-edge tooling cost.
This insert is suited for general-purpose CNC and manual lathe operations involving steel workpieces in the P10 through P35 material grade range, as well as secondary applications in stainless steel and cast iron. Typical use cases include back turning, facing, profiling, and straight turning in both production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to standard right-hand toolholders used across most turning center setups. It is compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock insert holding methods, broadening its range of compatible toolholder styles.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders accepting a 333 insert size with clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary materials include stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 apply.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification to secure the clamp or lever-lock mechanism. Inspect the insert seat and toolholder pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert, as a contaminated seat will affect edge runout and surface finish.
