The SECO 02959836 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TNMG431-MF2 industry standard number and grade designation TP2501, featuring a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. The triangular insert shape provides 6 usable cutting edges with a neutral hand orientation. A chamfered and honed cutting edge style, combined with the MF2 chip breaker geometry, delivers controlled chip formation and consistent surface finish across a range of feed and depth conditions.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, boring, and back turning applications with a primary focus on steel workpieces including carbon and alloy steel grades. It also performs reliably on stainless steel and cast iron. The MF2 chip breaker geometry suits light to moderate material removal operations, making it a practical choice for production turning on both general-purpose and high-output lathes in job shop and manufacturing environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working within P10 through P35 material grades will find this insert fits standard TNMG toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods.
Designed for use in standard TNMG-style toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch inscribed circle triangular insert with a 3/16 inch insert thickness. Suitable for steel (P10-P35), stainless steel (M grade), and cast iron (K grade) workpiece materials. Multi-use application: back turning, boring, facing, and turning.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket seating surfaces before engaging the clamping mechanism to ensure proper support and edge alignment. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as loss of cutting edge integrity can cause workpiece damage or unsafe conditions.
