The SECO 02959801 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG432-MF2 series, designed for negative-rake external and internal machining operations. It carries the TP1501 manufacturer grade with a Duratomic CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, providing wear resistance suited to continuous and interrupted steel cuts. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch (0.0315 inch) corner radius. With four usable cutting edges and a chamfered and honed edge prep, it delivers consistent chip control through the MF2 chip breaker geometry. Weight is 0.02 pounds per insert.
This insert is built for boring, facing, and turning applications on steel as the primary workpiece material, with cast iron and hard materials as secondary targets. It fits into standard CNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. The MF2 chip breaker geometry targets finishing to medium roughing passes on steel, making it a practical choice for machine shops, maintenance machining operations, and production turning where consistent chip evacuation in steel and cast iron is required.

Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians following standard insert indexing procedures. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping hardware for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the insert.
