The SECO 02959764 is a CCMT-series indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in steel and cast iron applications. It carries the industry-standard designation CCMT32.51-M5 and is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life and wear resistance. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius, it suits medium to finish turning operations and is seated and held by screw clamping in compatible toolholders.
This insert is suited for external and internal operations including boring, facing, and turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. The M5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for steel (material grade P01 and P10) as the primary workpiece material, with cast iron as a secondary workpiece material. A positive rake angle promotes free cutting action and reduced cutting forces, making this insert appropriate for light to medium depths of cut on both conventional and high-speed CNC equipment. It is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking environments.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard production insert for CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO CCMT insert standards. ISO equivalent designation is CCMT09T304-M5. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle CCMT insert with a 0.1772 inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder seat and clamp compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC operators; always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can cause insert rock and premature failure. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.3661 inches to avoid insert fracture.
