The SECO 02910963 is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert in the VNGA style, designed for precision machining of hard and difficult-to-cut materials. This uncoated, neutral-hand insert features a 35-degree diamond shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.008-inch corner radius. It carries a flat-top chip breaker geometry and a chamfered and honed cutting edge. The manufacturer grade is CBN010, and the insert is multi-tipped with two cutting edges. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install and apply this insert in production turning operations.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, back turning, and profiling operations on hard materials and super-alloys including titanium. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with an ISO code of VNGA160402S-01020-L1-B and an industry standard number of VNGA330.5S-00420-L1-B. Typical applications include interrupted and continuous cuts on hardened steels and similar hard workpiece materials where CBN tooling is specified. The insert is held using clamp, pin, or lever lock methods.
Designed for use in VNGA-style insert seats on CNC lathes and turning centers. Suitable for primary workpiece materials classified as hard materials (H) and secondary workpiece materials classified as super-alloys and titanium (S). Material grades H01, H10, and H20 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and all motion fully arrested before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the VNGA-style toolholder to secure the insert via clamp, pin, or lever lock. Inspect the insert seat and seating surfaces for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
