The SECO 02899501 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI/ISO designation SEEX09T3AFN-M05 and manufactured to grade MS2050. The insert is square in shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/8-inch length and width, and a thickness of 0.1563 inches. A PVD-applied TiAlN and NbN dual coating delivers thermal resistance and edge wear protection during high-speed milling. With four cutting edges, a neutral rake angle, and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is engineered for productive metal removal in demanding machining environments. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for milling superalloys and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, with steel and stainless steel as secondary applications. It carries primary workpiece material code S and secondary codes P and M per ISO classification. The M05 chip breaker geometry supports stable chip control across these material groups. A maximum depth of cut of 0.2795 inches suits medium-depth shoulder and face milling passes. This insert is well suited to aerospace, energy, and precision machining operations where difficult-to-machine alloys are common.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R217.53-09 and R220.53-09 per manufacturer data. Insert size code 09T3 and ANSI/ISO code SEEX09T3AFN-M05 should be confirmed against the toolholder specification before ordering.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque for screw-retained inserts — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert to ensure full contact and accurate positioning.
