The SECO 02899477 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation XOMX120404TR-ME08 in manufacturer grade MS2050. It is a single-sided, parallelogram-shaped insert with a positive rake geometry and T-Land cutting edge style, designed for high-performance milling of difficult-to-machine materials. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN and NbN multilayer coating over a micrograin carbide substrate, providing thermal resistance and edge toughness. With 2 cutting edges, a 15-degree relief angle, a 20.1-degree rake angle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it delivers controlled chip formation and reliable edge life in demanding production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling professionals install this insert type.
This insert is sized for XOMX-12 series toolholders and is compatible with cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12. Its primary target material is superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S), with secondary suitability for steel and stainless steel (ISO codes P and M). The ME08 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing to semi-finishing passes in these material groups. Typical applications include aerospace component machining, medical part production, and precision industrial milling where consistent chip control and extended tool life in hard or heat-resistant alloys are required.
Designed for use in XOMX-12 series milling bodies, specifically confirmed compatible with cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12. Insert is screw-held and right-hand oriented. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw size before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured before seating or removing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or contamination before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge alignment.
