The SECO 02823038 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to Series X4 specifications, it carries a CP500 manufacturer grade and features a dual-layer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating that extends edge life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert delivers a 0.031-inch cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 0.169 inches and an overall length of 1.001 inches. A positive rake geometry and MC chip breaker combine to promote controlled chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces during interrupted or continuous grooving passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible X4-series toolholders.
This insert suits universal primary workpiece material applications, covering material codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S per ISO classification. That range encompasses cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, steel, high-temperature alloys, and general-purpose materials. It is configured for right-hand cutting and is dimensioned for use in moderate-depth grooving scenarios where depth of cut falls between 0.150 and 0.200 inches. The double-end geometry allows the insert to be indexed, maximizing usable edge life per piece. Typical applications include groove profiling, undercut machining, and recessing on production turning equipment in job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in X4-series grooving toolholders accepting insert size code 2503009-A0031RN. Compatible with workpiece material ISO codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S. Consult the toolholder manufacturer's insert seat specifications to confirm fit before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before each insert change to maintain proper registration and prevent premature edge failure.
