The SECO 02749198 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert engineered for grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the MDT series, this neutral-hand insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating over a C5-grade carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and edge integrity across a range of workpiece materials. Key cutting geometry includes a 0.079 inch maximum cutting width, a 0.112 inch cutting height, and a 0.008 inch corner radius. The FTR6 chipbreaker geometry supports chip control during light to moderate grooving passes. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
The 02749198 is suited for grooving applications in both production and job-shop turning environments. Its neutral hand orientation allows use in standard toolholders without handedness restrictions. The insert is rated for workpiece material codes M, N, P, and S, covering stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, steel, and superalloys. Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct insert clamp and torque driver specified for the MDT toolholder to ensure proper seating without over-stressing the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Replacement of worn inserts should follow the toolholder manufacturer's indexing procedure to maintain cutting geometry accuracy.
