The SECO 02744581 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert in the 218.20-250ER-ME12 series, designed for high-performance material removal in CNC milling applications. It carries a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 dual-layer coating in the MM4500 grade, which is engineered for cutting stainless steel, steel, and superalloys including titanium. The insert features a positive rake angle of 6 degrees, a 15-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With 2 cutting edges and a right-hand orientation, it is suited for finish and semi-finish milling passes where edge integrity and surface quality are critical. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for use in stainless steel, carbon and alloy steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M, P, and S. It is compatible with the R218.20-50 cutter series and is held in place via screw clamping. The ME12 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across these material groups. Typical applications include profiling, contouring, and helical interpolation in both vertical and horizontal machining centers. The insert is a single-sided design with a 90-degree included angle, making it appropriate for full ball nose profiling operations.
Compatible with the R218.20-50 cutter series. The ANSI and ISO code for this insert is 218.20-250ER-ME12. Designed as a direct OEM-style replacement or standard insert selection for machines running the 218.20-250 series tooling system.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the tool body specification — do not overtighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
