The SECO 02712693 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill in the JS553 series, designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hard materials, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous metals. It carries a 5/16 inch diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and three right-hand spiral flutes with a high helix angle of 48 degrees. The cutting edge is center-cutting and single-end, allowing plunge entry. The SIRON-A (AlCrN-based) coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection for extended tool life in abrasive and high-heat applications. This tool is suited for machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
The 02712693 is configured for short-length, roughing-style material removal operations. Its 5/8 inch length of cut, 2.5 inch overall length, and straight cylindrical 5/16 inch shank make it compatible with standard ER and shrink-fit collet toolholders. It is well suited for slotting, profiling, and corner-radius contouring passes in ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces where edge integrity and chip evacuation are priorities. The right-hand cutting direction and spiral flute geometry support efficient chip flow in both climb and conventional milling strategies.
Designed for use with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hard materials, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous metals as stated by the manufacturer. Fits standard toolholders accepting a 5/16 inch straight cylindrical shank. Part of the SECO JS553 series.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC or manual milling equipment. Ensure the toolholder collet bore and shank diameter are matched within specified tolerances before tightening. Verify spindle runout does not exceed the 0.0004 inch TIR maximum for this tool. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines for feed, speed, and depth-of-cut parameters appropriate to the workpiece material and machine rigidity.
