The SECO 02709389 is a solid carbide round milling insert in the ROHT-12 series, designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding milling applications. Carrying manufacturer grade MS2500 with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating, this insert is engineered for use on superalloys and titanium as its primary workpiece material, with steel and stainless steel as secondary applications. The insert measures 0.4724 inches in inscribed circle diameter and 0.1874 inches thick. It features a positive rake angle of 10 degrees, a honed cutting edge, and a neutral hand orientation. Four cutting edges are available per insert, and the screw-in holding method provides secure seating in compatible cutter bodies.
This insert is suited for milling operations in aerospace and industrial environments where difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium alloys, nickel-based superalloys, stainless steel, and general steel are encountered. It is designed for use with compatible cutter series R217.24-12 and R220.24-12. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and profiling passes where consistent edge performance and thermal resistance are required. The M12 chip breaker geometry supports medium material engagement conditions.

Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians using the screw-in holding method; ensure the cutter body pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified insert screws for the cutter body to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage at each insert change.
