The SECO 02688972 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI and ISO designation ONMU090520ANTN-M13, manufactured to the F40M fine-grain carbide grade. This double-sided, octagon-shaped insert delivers 16 usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge in high-volume milling operations. The insert measures 0.8661 inches inscribed circle diameter and 0.2677 inches thick, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.3031 inches. A PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection across a wide range of workpiece materials. The M13 chip breaker geometry and negative rake angle with T-land edge prep are engineered for stable, predictable performance in both roughing and semi-finishing passes.
This insert is suited for face milling and shoulder milling applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium alloys. The neutral hand orientation makes it interchangeable across right-hand and left-hand cutter bodies within the compatible series. Typical installation environments include CNC machining centers running production work on ferrous and exotic alloy components in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking shops. The insert is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamp method, consistent with standard indexable tooling practice.
Designed for use with the R220.48-09 and L220.48-09 cutter series bodies. Insert size code 090520 fits toolholders accepting an inscribed circle range of 0.7000 to 1.0000 inches and thickness range of 0.2500 to 0.3500 inches within the ONMU-09 series.
Indexable milling inserts are installed and replaced by machining technicians or toolroom personnel following the cutter body manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping screw. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care — edges are brittle and will chip if dropped onto hard surfaces.
