The SECO 02637872 is a solid carbide milling insert in a trigon (triangle) shape, designed for use in indexable milling cutters operating on difficult-to-machine materials. It carries the ANSI and ISO designation 218.19-160T-04-MD11 and is manufactured in grade MS2500 with a CVD-applied dual-layer TiCN and Al2O3 coating. The insert measures 0.1874 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.4402 inches, a corner radius of 0.0472 inches, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.079 inches. With three cutting edges and a neutral rake and hand orientation, it is suited for high-productivity milling passes on superalloys, titanium, steel, and stainless steel. The MD11 chip breaker geometry controls chip flow under moderate to heavy cutting conditions.
This insert is intended for professional machining environments where tool life and thermal resistance are critical. Its primary workpiece material classification is superalloys and titanium (ISO code S), with secondary suitability for steel and stainless steel (ISO codes P and M). The 60-degree included angle trigon geometry fits screw-clamped indexable milling toolholders. The insert is compatible with cutter series R218.19-32, R217.21-R160, and R220.21-R160, making it applicable to face milling and shoulder milling operations in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking applications. Minimum order quantity is 10 units.
Compatible with cutter series R218.19-32, R217.21-R160, and R220.21-R160. Suitable for machining superalloys and titanium as the primary workpiece material, with secondary application to steel and stainless steel. Insert size code 160T-04 per ISO standard designation 218.19-160T-04-MD11.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque for the R218.19 or compatible cutter body. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
