The SECO 02623074 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the MDT series, designed for high-performance grooving and turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to LCMF style geometry with an insert size code of 130304, it carries a TGP25 grade with a Duratomic TiCN/Al2O3 coating applied via a controlled CVD process. The insert delivers a maximum cutting width of 0.118 inches and a cutting height of 0.157 inches, with a 0.016 inch corner radius and a full radius profile. A 7-degree relief angle and FT chipbreaker geometry support controlled chip evacuation across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert into compatible MDT toolholders on production turning equipment.
This insert is suited for turning, grooving, and profiling operations on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon or alloy steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups K, M, and P. The double-end, neutral-hand design allows use in both left-hand and right-hand orientations, improving tooling flexibility on multi-spindle or gang-tooled setups. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning in production environments where consistent chip control and insert life across mixed-material runs are critical. The full radius geometry is particularly well-suited to grooving operations requiring a radiused base profile.

Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or insert-clamp key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert — do not overtighten by hand or with non-rated tools. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
