The SECO 02621865 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert designed for precision turning operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Part of the MDT (Multi-Directional Turning) series, this insert carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life and wear resistance. It measures 0.118 inches in maximum cutting width and 0.177 inches in cutting height, with a corner radius ranging from 0.008 to 0.016 inches. The double-end, neutral-hand configuration maximizes usable cutting edges per insert. It is installed and replaced by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for use on CNC lathes and turning centers handling a broad spectrum of materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, general steels, and superalloys, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. The MDT series is engineered for multi-directional turning strategies where the tool must engage workpieces from varying approach angles. The MC chipbreaker geometry is integral to controlling chip flow during these operations, making the insert appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes depending on feed and depth-of-cut selection.
Designed as a replacement insert for SECO MDT series multi-directional turning toolholders accepting LCMF 160302 style inserts with a neutral hand orientation.
Insert replacement is performed by a CNC machinist or qualified toolroom technician. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm the turret is fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Use a proper torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve correct clamping torque without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
