The SECO 02616739 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has a maximum cutting width of 0.118 inches, a cutting height of 0.157 inches, and a corner radius of 0.008 inches. It belongs to SECO's MDT series, uses an LCMR insert style, and is single-ended with a neutral hand orientation. The FT chipbreaker geometry supports consistent chip control during light to medium depth passes. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
The 02616739 is suited for turning and grooving applications across multiple material categories including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Its neutral hand makes it adaptable to both right- and left-hand tool holders within compatible MDT-series tooling systems. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes where tight width control and corner geometry accuracy are required. Typical use is in production turning environments where consistent insert changeover and repeatability are priorities.
Designed for use in SECO MDT-series tooling systems that accept LCMR-style inserts. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and all stored energy discharged before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified by the MDT-series holder to seat the insert properly. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before each insert change to ensure accurate seating and repeatability.
