The SECO 02497631 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCGT series, grade CP500, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied multilayer TiAlN and TiN coating that provides moderate to high wear resistance with retained toughness. It has an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake geometry, and a sharp cutting edge style. With a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for finishing and medium machining operations where close tolerances and surface finish quality matter. The left-hand orientation and screw-holding method are consistent with standard CCGT tooling setups.
This insert targets stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with strong secondary suitability for steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The UX chip breaker is engineered for finishing and medium machining applications including boring, facing, and turning. It performs in material grade ranges M10 through M30, making it a practical choice for shops running a variety of ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloy materials. The CP500 grade characteristics cover Steel (P), Cast Iron (K), and Special and Super Alloys (S) with a balance of wear resistance and toughness appropriate to those material families.
Designed for use in CCGT-series toolholders that accept a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, screw-clamp insert with a positive rake geometry. Verify toolholder hand orientation (left-hand) and insert seat dimensions before installation. Multi-use compatibility includes boring, facing, and turning operations.
Installation is performed by machining professionals familiar with indexable insert tooling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified clamping screw and appropriate torx or hex key for the toolholder; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert seat and screw threads for chips or damage each time the insert is indexed or replaced.
