The SECO 02029 is a square tool bit blank ground from WKE45-grade cobalt high-speed steel. It measures 6 mm wide by 6 mm high with an overall length of 100 mm, giving machinists and tool grinders a solid, uniform blank from which to profile custom cutting geometries. WKE45 cobalt HSS delivers elevated hot hardness and wear resistance compared to standard M2-grade steel, making it well suited for interrupted cuts, tough alloys, and applications where heat buildup is a concern. This blank ships unground on the cutting end, ready for custom profile grinding by the end user.
Tool bit blanks of this type are used in machine shops, tool rooms, and maintenance departments where operators grind their own single-point lathe tools, boring bars, form tools, or special-purpose cutters. The 6 mm square cross-section fits standard import-style and metric toolholders. This size is common in bench lathe and small CNC turning applications where compact tooling is required. Machinists working with non-ferrous metals, alloy steels, and stainless frequently choose cobalt HSS blanks when carbide insert tooling is not practical or cost-effective for the job.
Designed as a general-purpose tool bit blank for use in metric toolholders and grinding fixtures that accept a 6 mm square shank profile.
Grinding of tool bit blanks should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool grinder using appropriate wheel grades for cobalt HSS. Eye protection and a tool rest are required during grinding operations. Ensure the grinding wheel is rated for HSS materials and that the blank is secured firmly against the tool rest to prevent kickback. Allow adequate cooling during grinding to avoid drawing the temper of the cobalt steel.
