The SECO 00731879 is a carbide grooving insert designed for use in Snap Tap series tooling systems. It carries the 10NR insert style with an 086 size code and is manufactured to ISO standards using a micrograin carbide substrate. The CP500 manufacturer grade insert features a PVD-applied dual coating of TiAlN and TiN, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. At 0.354 inches overall length and a cutting width of 0.086 inches, this right-hand insert is suited for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Installation is performed by machining professionals using clamp-style insert retention.
This insert is configured for universal application across multiple material groups, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S. The FG chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during grooving passes. It is well suited for high-production turning environments where consistent groove width and depth control are required. Maximum depth of cut capability falls in the 0.075 to 0.100 inch range, with a rated maximum depth of 0.086 inches for this configuration.
Designed for use with Snap Tap series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept a 10-seat insert with a 0.250-inch inscribed circle. Consult the Snap Tap system documentation for compatible holder part numbers.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before performing any insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating or releasing the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper clamping force and insert orientation.
