The SECO 00098008 is a round carbide turning insert in the RCMT series, designed for precision metal-cutting applications in CNC turning operations. This insert carries the ISO designation RCMT0602M0-F1 and is manufactured to grade CP500 with a multilayer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating. It features a 6 mm (0.2362 inch) inscribed circle, a 7-degree relief angle, and a positive rake geometry with a sharp cutting edge style. The F1 chip breaker is optimized for finishing operations, delivering controlled chip formation at light to moderate depths of cut up to 0.1181 inch. The insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on stainless steel, steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, covering material codes P, K, M, and S. The round (R) insert shape allows full-radius cutting and supports facing, profiling, and turning operations from a single insert seat. The CP500 grade delivers moderate to high wear resistance paired with sufficient toughness for interrupted and continuous cuts across these material families. It is a multi-use insert appropriate for general-purpose CNC turning centers operating in production and job-shop environments where surface finish and dimensional control are priorities.
Designed to seat in standard RCMT-style toolholders accepting a 6 mm inscribed circle round insert with screw clamping. Conforms to ANSI insert code RCMT21.5M0 and ISO insert code RCMT0602M0 for cross-reference with compatible toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a powered-down or E-stopped CNC turning center before spindle restart. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle. Inspect the pocket seat and clamp for wear or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Follow the machine shop lockout and tagout procedure before any insert change at the turret.
