The SECO 00096854 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert in grade CP500, designed for precision finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. It features a multilayer PVD TiAlN and TiN coating applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness across moderate to demanding cutting conditions. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a positive rake geometry with the F1 chip breaker optimized for finishing. Four cutting edges are available per insert, making it an efficient choice for production turning environments.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations in both light production and job-shop settings. It performs across a range of workpiece materials including steel (P), cast iron (K), and special and super alloys (S), with stainless steel listed as the primary target material. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand toolholders accepting CCMT-style inserts. The screw-lock holding method provides secure clamping during finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. Material grades M10, M20, and M30 indicate applicability from light to medium-heavy cutting scenarios.

Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians following standard indexable insert procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination will affect insert stability and surface finish.
