The SECO 00082621 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 16 threads per inch. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a CP500 manufacturer grade, it features a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends cutting edge life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.1366 inch thickness conform to the 16ER insert style geometry. A 60-degree included angle and TT chipbreaker designation make this insert suited for precise thread-form control on turning centers and CNC lathes. It is installed and changed out by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is used in external threading operations on turning equipment where UN thread standards are required. The CP500 grade with universal material compatibility codes K, M, P, and S makes it appropriate for steel, stainless, cast iron, and high-temp alloy applications. It belongs to the Snap Tap series and conforms to ISO standards for indexable threading inserts. Typical applications include threading of hydraulic fittings, fastener stock, and industrial component shafts in both high-volume production and low-volume precision work.
Designed for use in 16ER-style Snap Tap series toolholders conforming to ISO indexable threading insert standards. Compatible workpiece material groups include K, M, P, and S as defined by ISO material classification.
Install and index this insert with power off and the spindle locked per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force — do not overtighten. Confirm insert seating and clearance angles before resuming cutting operations. Threading insert changes should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with the toolholder system in use.
