The SECO 00078013 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal partial profile threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a micrograin substrate and PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert carries the CP500 manufacturer grade for wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It cuts right-hand internal threads with a 55-degree included angle and covers a thread pitch range of 48 to 8 TPI, equivalent to 0.50 to 3.00 mm pitch. The 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.1366 inch thickness conform to standard laydown insert geometry in the Snap Tap series. Machinists and CNC operators performing internal threading on steel, stainless, cast iron, and superalloys are the primary users.
This insert is suited for internal threading in both production and job shop environments where a single insert must cover multiple thread pitches. The partial profile geometry allows cutting of thread forms without full root control, making it versatile across ISO-standard thread families. The A2 chipbreaker promotes chip evacuation in blind-bore and through-bore threading applications. Compatible workpiece material classifications include ISO material groups K, M, P, and S, covering gray cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. The 00078013 is an insert in the SECO Snap Tap series with insert style designation 16NR, conforming to ISO standard laydown threading insert geometry. It is compatible with toolholders accepting 16NR-style laydown threading inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle seating.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed away from the work zone before replacing inserts. Use the correct insert-seating torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification and confirm the insert is fully seated with no rocking before resuming cutting. Verify thread pitch programming matches the insert TPI range before initiating the threading cycle.
