The SECO 00077940 is a laydown threading insert designed for right-hand external thread cutting operations. Built from solid carbide micrograin substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating under the CP500 manufacturer grade, this insert delivers consistent performance across a wide range of workpiece materials. It produces a partial profile 60-degree thread form covering 48 to 16 TPI, making it suitable for high-volume threading cycles on CNC lathes and turning centers. The A2 chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation. Inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3750 inches decimal), and insert thickness is 0.1366 inches. This is a 16ER-style laydown insert from SECO's Snap Tap series.
This insert is used in external threading applications on CNC turning equipment where a single insert must cover a broad TPI range. It is suited for machining universal workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and heat-resistant alloys, as indicated by material codes K, M, P, and S. Typical install scenarios include threading shaft diameters, fastener stock, and hydraulic fittings in job shop and production machining environments. The right-hand cutting geometry is standard for conventional spindle rotation threading passes.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders within the SECO Snap Tap series. Suitable for external threading of universal workpiece materials classified under ISO material groups K, M, P, and S.
This insert is installed and replaced by a CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and secure with the appropriate torx or clamping screw to manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seating surface and pocket for chips or debris before clamping to avoid seating errors that affect thread accuracy.
