The SECO 00077902 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for turning and threading operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built to the Snap Tap series specification, this right-hand insert carries a CP500 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating for wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The cutting width measures 0.068 inches with a maximum depth of cut of 0.068 inches, making it suited for precision external grooving and thread-relief work. The micrograin carbide substrate supports consistent edge retention at elevated cutting speeds. A clamp-style holding method secures the insert in compatible Snap Tap toolholders.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S under ISO classification. That range covers cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, hardened materials, and superalloys. It is used in production turning environments where tight groove tolerances and repeatable depth control are required. The FG chip breaker geometry assists in chip control during shallow grooving passes. Typical users include CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in job shop or production floor settings.
Designed for use with Snap Tap series clamping toolholders accepting a size 10 insert seat and the 10ER/NR .068FG style. Consult the SECO Snap Tap toolholder lineup to confirm seat and clamp compatibility before ordering.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamp securely without over-driving the fastener. Verify insert orientation and seating before resuming cuts. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edge during installation.
