The SECO 00077898 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to CP500 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating, this insert delivers consistent edge wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It features a 0.1 inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1 inch, making it suited for fine, controlled groove profiles. The FA chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control at moderate to high cutting speeds. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Snap Tap series toolholders.
This insert is engineered for universal material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, O, P, and S. That range spans hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and general-purpose carbon steels. It is appropriate for both production turning environments and job-shop applications where a single insert grade must handle varied material runs. The right-hand cutting orientation suits standard external grooving setups. It fits within the Snap Tap series insert system, which uses a clamp-style insert holding method for secure, repeatable positioning.
Designed for use in Snap Tap series clamp-style toolholders accepting a size 10 insert seat with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle. Insert style is 10EAR with style designation 10EAR .1FA. Compatible with ISO-standard grooving insert systems of equivalent seat size.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle locked out and at full stop before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key for the clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamp. Verify insert seating and clamp engagement before resuming cutting operations. Consult the toolholder manufacturer documentation for recommended cutting parameters by workpiece material group.
