The SECO 00077866 is a laydown-style external threading insert designed for cutting NPTF pipe threads on CNC lathes and threading machines. Manufactured from solid carbide micrograin substrate in the CP500 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent edge life across a range of workpiece materials. It cuts right-hand threads at 18 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle, producing the tapered NPTF thread form required for pressure-tight pipe connections without the need for sealant. The insert seats in standard 16ER-style laydown toolholders and is suited for shops running production threading operations on pipe fittings, couplings, and similar components.
This insert is intended for external NPTF threading applications in metalworking environments. The CP500 micrograin carbide grade with PVD coating makes it suitable for threading across universal workpiece material categories including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, steel, and heat-resistant super alloys. Typical applications include threading 3/8-inch pipe ends and similar small-diameter NPTF connections in manufacturing, maintenance, and job-shop settings. It is part of the Snap Tap series and conforms to ISO insert standards.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders. Produces right-hand external NPTF threads at 18 TPI. Compatible workpiece material categories include cast iron (K), stainless and heat-resistant alloys (M), non-ferrous and non-metals (N), steel (P), and super alloys (S) per the input material grade codes.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a CNC or manual lathe with a compatible 16ER laydown toolholder. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully and confirm the clamp torque is within the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming cuts. Do not run the insert beyond visible edge wear, as a degraded cutting edge will produce out-of-tolerance thread forms on pressure-critical NPTF connections.
