The SECO 00077860 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPT threads at 18 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 manufacturer grade with a micrograin substrate, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. It is sized at a 7/32-inch (0.2188-inch) inscribed circle and measures 0.0945 inches thick. The insert uses a right-hand cutting orientation and a 60-degree included angle, making it purpose-built for NPT pipe thread profiles. Machinists and toolroom professionals install these inserts in compatible Snap Tap toolholders on CNC lathes and threading machines.
This insert is suited for internal NPT pipe thread operations in production and job-shop environments. The CP500 grade with universal primary workpiece material classification covers cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys, giving it broad application flexibility. It is appropriate for residential and commercial pipe fitting thread preparation as well as industrial fluid and gas system components requiring NPT-standard internal threads. The Snap Tap series design supports quick insert indexing to minimize downtime during high-volume threading runs.
Designed for use in Snap Tap series toolholders compatible with the 09NR insert style. Verify toolholder seat dimensions and insert pocket specifications before installation to confirm proper fit.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not use substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Discard inserts that show chipping, edge breakdown, or coating delamination rather than attempting to re-use them.
