The SECO 00077788 is a laydown threading insert designed for external ISO threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating in grade CP500, this insert delivers consistent thread geometry on difficult-to-machine materials. It carries a 2.5mm pitch, a 60-degree included angle, and a right-hand cutting orientation. The A2 chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during continuous threading passes. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert as part of the Snap Tap series tooling system.
This insert is suited for external ISO thread turning in materials coded M, with stainless steel listed as the primary workpiece material. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle fits compatible laydown insert pockets sized for the 16ER insert style. The CP500 grade with PVD coating is selected for its wear resistance and edge toughness in stainless and similar work-hardening alloys. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing thread profiles where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the 16ER laydown insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle pocket. Intended for external ISO threading applications per ISO standards on turning equipment.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Verify insert pocket cleanliness and seating surface condition before each insert change to maintain thread accuracy. Follow the toolholder OEM documentation for correct clamp screw torque and insert orientation.
