The SECO 00072307 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying ANSI designation VNGM332MF1 and ISO designation VNGM160408-MF1. It is designed for precision finishing operations in CNC and manual turning applications. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a sharp cutting edge style and MF1 chip breaker geometry optimized for light, consistent chip formation. A multilayer PVD coating — TiAlN over TiN — delivers high wear resistance across a range of difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch insert thickness are consistent with standard VNGM-series tooling. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on stainless steel and superalloys as its primary workpiece materials, with steel and cast iron as secondary applications. Its MF1 chip breaker geometry supports low-depth, high-precision finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of approximately 0.5984 inches. Typical operations include back turning, facing, profiling, and standard OD turning. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to both right- and left-hand toolholders designed for VNGM-style inserts. It is appropriate for both high-production environments and precision prototype work where surface finish and dimensional consistency are critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct fit for VNGM-series toolholders accepting ANSI size code 332 inserts. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards (ISO code VNGM160408-MF1). Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever-lock systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop, spindle off, and all motion axes locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder style — do not overtighten clamping screws, as this can chip the cutting edge or damage the insert pocket. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Dispose of used inserts in accordance with applicable shop safety and sharps-handling procedures.
