The SECO 00072240 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries the DNMP431-MF1 industry standard designation and is finished with a multilayer PVD TiAlN and TiN coating over a CP200 carbide substrate. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.0157 inches (1/64 inch). With four available cutting edges and a negative rake geometry, this insert delivers consistent performance in demanding finish and semi-finish turning contexts. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron (ISO codes P and K). Material grades M01, M10, M20, S10, and S20 are listed as supported. The MF1 chip breaker geometry supports finish to medium turning applications. Typical uses include back turning, boring, facing, and turning operations. Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard insert for DNMP-style toolholders that accept a 431 insert size with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter and clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop, lockout condition. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer for clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention systems. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating or use damaged inserts, as this can cause tool failure or workpiece damage.
