The SECO 00064899 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT series, designed for precision metal cutting in demanding machining applications. It carries the industry standard designation CPMT21.50.5-F1 and is manufactured to grade CP200 with a multilayer PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a sharp cutting edge style. With a 0.25 inch inscribed circle and a 0.008 inch corner radius, it is sized for light to moderate depth-of-cut passes. Screw-held mounting and a neutral hand orientation make it compatible with standard CPMT toolholders. Two cutting edges are available per insert.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron. The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light interrupted cuts in difficult-to-machine materials. It fits production and maintenance machining environments where consistent surface finish and tool life on ISO material groups M and S are required. The insert meets both ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation CPMT060202-F1.
Designed for use in CPMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, 3/32 inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert with a hole diameter of 0.1142 inches. Verify toolholder seat dimensions and chip breaker clearance before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians using standard insert torx or hex keys per toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket pocket walls before tightening the clamp screw to avoid microfracture at the cutting edge. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris that could prevent proper seating and compromise edge geometry.
