The SECO 00064782 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting operations. Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating under the CP500 grade designation, it delivers consistent performance across a broad range of workpiece materials. This right-hand insert operates on a partial profile 55-degree thread standard and covers a thread pitch range of 48 to 8 TPI, equivalent to 0.50 to 3.00 mm pitch. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it fits the Snap-Tap toolholder series. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators in production and job shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for internal threading on lathes and turning centers in both production and maintenance machining environments. The CP500 grade with PVD coating is rated for universal workpiece materials, including ISO material codes K, M, P, and S, covering cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and high-temp alloys. It is particularly effective where consistent thread form and tool life across varied material types are required. The partial profile 55-degree geometry makes it appropriate for thread forms such as BSW, BSF, and similar unified-style threads where the full thread profile is generated by the workpiece material rather than the insert tip.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for Snap-Tap series toolholders accepting the 16NR insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and laydown seating geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under uneven clamping load. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatable tool geometry.
