The SECO 00064745 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 8 threads per inch. Built from micrograin solid carbide in the CP500 grade, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that supports extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The insert follows the 16NR style geometry with an A1 chipbreaker and a 60-degree included angle. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it fits standard toolholders configured for this insert family. This is a right-hand insert for internal threading operations and is installed by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for internal UN threading in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The Snap Tap series geometry supports consistent thread form control across these material groups, which span ISO material codes K, M, and P. Typical applications include threading bores in machined components where a unified national thread form is required. It is packaged individually but must be ordered in multiples of two per manufacturer minimum order quantity requirements.
Designed for use with toolholders accepting the 16NR laydown insert style. Compatible primary workpiece materials include cast iron, stainless steel, and steel, corresponding to ISO material codes K, M, and P. Conforms to ISO standards for insert geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle locked out and all motion stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material and grade combination. Inspect the insert edge condition before each use and replace at the first sign of chipping or thread form degradation.
