The SECO 00064726 is a laydown-style threading insert engineered for internal UN thread cutting at 28 threads per inch. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with a TiAlN/TiN finish applied via PVD process, this insert delivers consistent edge life across a broad range of workpiece materials. It carries the CP500 manufacturer grade designation and belongs to the Snap Tap series. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.1366 inches, and a 60-degree included angle, the insert is sized for standard toolholders that accept 16NR-style laydown inserts. Machinists and CNC operators install it for high-precision threading operations requiring repeatable profile geometry.
This insert is suited for internal threading applications on lathes and turning centers in both job-shop and production environments. The 28 TPI UN thread standard makes it applicable to a wide range of fastener and fitting threads common in general machining, aerospace component work, and industrial fabrication. The universal primary workpiece material rating covers cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, steel, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material codes K, M, N, P, and S. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard for conventional internal threading cycles.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 16NR-style laydown threading insert seats used in internal UN thread turning applications. Compatible toolholders must accept the 16NR insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle seating geometry.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket before securing the clamping screw to manufacturer torque specification for the holder. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris prior to seating to avoid micro-fracture of the carbide substrate.
