The SECO 00050098 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external partial profile threading operations. Part of the Snap Tap series, it carries the CP500 manufacturer grade with a micrograin carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert covers a thread range of 48 to 8 TPI with a 60-degree included angle, making it suitable for unified and metric-equivalent thread forms cut in a right-hand direction. At 0.3750 inches inscribed circle and 0.1366 inches thick, it seats precisely in compatible 16ER toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning centers and CNC lathes performing external threading on a broad spectrum of materials including steel, stainless, cast iron, high-temp alloys, and non-ferrous metals, as reflected by its universal primary workpiece material rating spanning K, M, P, and S material groups per ISO classification. The A1 chipbreaker geometry supports consistent chip control during threading passes. Machinists and toolroom technicians in precision machining, job shop, and production environments are the primary installers and users of this tooling.

Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians on powered-down or E-stopped CNC turning equipment before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the cutting edge and seating surface for debris before securing. Follow your machine tool builder and shop safety procedures when handling carbide inserts, as edges are extremely sharp.
