The SECO 00049938 is a laydown threading insert engineered for external NPT thread cutting at 27 threads per inch. Manufactured from solid carbide in the CP500 grade, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN finish that extends cutting edge life across a wide range of workpiece materials. It belongs to the Snap-Tap series and features a right-hand cutting orientation with a 60-degree included angle. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1366-inch thickness conform to the 16ER insert style standard. Licensed machinists, tool room operators, and production CNC programmers install this insert in compatible external threading toolholders.
This insert is suited for producing NPT tapered pipe threads on external diameters in production and job-shop turning environments. The CP500 grade and universal primary workpiece material classification make it applicable across cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, steel, stainless, and high-temperature alloys as defined by ISO material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is used in both manual lathes and CNC turning centers wherever NPT pipe thread forms are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for external threading toolholders accepting the 16ER laydown insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle.
This insert is installed by machinists in external threading toolholders rated for the 16ER style. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify insert seating and thread-form alignment with a thread gauge before resuming production cuts.
