The SECO 00049937 is a laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It cuts right-hand UNJ-profile threads at 24 threads per inch (TPI) with a 60-degree included angle, conforming to ISO thread standards. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide in the CP500 grade and carries a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating for extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it fits standard laydown threading toolholders in the 16ER series. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production and repair threading operations where UNJ thread form accuracy is required.
This insert is suited for external threading on a wide range of materials, including ferrous alloys, non-ferrous metals, and exotic or high-temperature alloys, consistent with its universal primary workpiece material rating and material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is used in aerospace, precision machining, and general manufacturing environments where UNJ thread standards are specified. The Snap-Tap series design supports repeatable seating and quick changeovers in high-volume turning applications. It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 2 pieces.
Designed for use with 16ER series laydown threading toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with external threading applications requiring a UNJ thread form at 24 TPI.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or changing the insert. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw to ensure proper support and thread form accuracy. Verify thread profile and pitch with a thread gauge after the first pass before committing to a full production run.
