The SECO 00049917 is a laydown threading insert engineered for external UNJ thread forms at 20 threads per inch (TPI). Built from solid carbide in the CP500 grade, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN finish that extends cutting edge life in demanding threading operations. The insert follows a right-hand cutting geometry with a 60-degree included angle, fitting the 16ER insert style used in standard Snap-Tap toolholders. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (IC) and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, this insert is sized for precise, repeatable thread profile generation on external workpiece features. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of two pieces.
This insert is intended for CNC lathes and turning centers performing external UNJ-standard threading on a broad range of workpiece materials. The CP500 grade with PVD coating is rated for universal application, covering cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, non-metals, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys — reflected in material codes K, M, N, P, and S. Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and de-energize the machine before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the insert clamp to the manufacturer-specified feel — do not overtighten by feel alone; follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before mounting to ensure full, flat insert contact.
