The SECO 00049891 is a laydown threading insert designed for external ISO threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide micrograin substrate in the CP500 grade, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends edge life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert follows a 16ER style geometry with a 2.00 mm pitch and a 60-degree included angle, making it suited for standard ISO metric external thread profiles. The inscribed circle measures 0.3750 inches and thickness is 0.1366 inches. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of routine tooling changes in production threading applications.
This insert is engineered for universal material compatibility, covering material groups K, M, N, P, and S. That range spans cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It fits the Snap Tap series toolholders that accept 16ER-style laydown inserts. Typical applications include external metric thread turning in both job-shop and production environments where consistent thread form and predictable tool life are required.
Designed for use with Snap Tap series toolholders accepting 16ER-style laydown threading inserts with a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle locked per standard shop safety procedure. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key for the Snap Tap toolholder to seat the insert correctly without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect thread form accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping procedure for laydown-style inserts.
