The SECO 00049826 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting external NPT threads on a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating in the CP500 grade, this insert delivers consistent thread geometry and extended edge life in production threading operations. It carries a 16ER insert style designation and is configured for right-hand cutting with a 60-degree included angle standard to NPT profiles. At 14 threads per inch (TPI), it produces the tapered pipe thread form required for pressure-tight pipe and fitting connections. Machinists and toolroom operators working on CNC lathes or threading machines are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for external NPT threading applications across universal workpiece material categories, including cast iron, non-ferrous, non-metallic, steel, and high-temperature alloys as indicated by material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It fits into the Snap Tap series toolholding system and is appropriate for job shops and production environments where repeatable pipe thread profiles are required on parts such as fittings, nipples, and manifold bodies. The ISO-standard geometry ensures dimensional consistency across qualified toolholder setups.
Designed for use in Snap Tap series toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Suitable for universal workpiece material grades including material codes K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's seating and clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Verify insert seating and toolholder cleanliness before engaging a cut to prevent thread-form deviation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque procedure for 16ER-style laydown inserts.
