The SECO 00049803 is a laydown threading insert designed for right-hand external UN thread cutting at 12 threads per inch (TPI). Part of the Snap-Tap series, this solid carbide insert carries a CP500 grade designation and features a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert geometry follows the 16ER style with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a thickness of 0.1366 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert on threading toolholders used in turning centers and lathes.
This insert is suited for both production and job-shop threading operations targeting UN-standard external threads. Its universal primary workpiece material rating — covering material codes K, M, N, P, and S — makes it appropriate for threading carbon steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, and non-ferrous metals. The PVD coating reduces heat buildup and edge wear during interrupted or continuous thread passes. Minimum order quantity is 2 inserts; each package contains 1 insert.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling insert for 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders used in external UN thread turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Confirm the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before installing the insert. Torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not use impact tools on insert clamping hardware.
