The SECO 00049773 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external NPT thread cutting at 11.5 threads per inch. It carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and features a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating for wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert follows the 16ER style geometry with a 60-degree included angle and a 0.375-inch inscribed circle. A 0.0030-inch corner radius and precise edge geometry make it well-suited for producing accurate, leak-free NPT pipe thread profiles on turned components. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators working in metal cutting environments.
This insert is intended for external right-hand NPT threading operations on lathes and turning centers. The CP500 grade and PVD TiAlN/TiN coating support use across universal workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, steel, stainless, and high-temperature alloys. It is commonly used in job shop and production environments where NPT pipe fittings, nipples, and threaded connectors are machined to ANSI/ASME NPT standards. The Snap-Tap series design allows for consistent, repeatable thread form in both low-volume and high-cycle applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit threading insert for 16ER-style toolholders used in external NPT threading operations on CNC and manual lathes.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the lathe or turning center is fully powered down and the spindle is locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert-locking screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify thread pitch and insert seating before resuming cutting operations to avoid thread form errors or insert damage.
