The SECO 00049728 is a laydown threading insert engineered for external ISO threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 grade with a micrograin substrate, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends tool life across demanding workpiece materials. It follows the 16ER insert style with a 1.50 mm pitch, a 60-degree included angle, and an A1 chipbreaker geometry. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1366-inch thickness match standard Snap Tap toolholder pockets. Right-hand cutting orientation is fixed. Installation and setup are handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external ISO thread turning on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon or alloy steel workpieces, covering material codes K, M, and P. The A1 chipbreaker geometry helps manage chip flow at threading feed rates. It fits standard Snap Tap series toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style. Typical applications include single-point thread generation on shafts, fasteners, fittings, and other turned components requiring ISO-standard thread forms.

Machinist or CNC operator installation. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or changing inserts. Use the correct insert clamp and torx key specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamp screw. Verify insert seating and toolholder projection before resuming cutting operations.
